Welcome
to The Appalachian Quilt Cottage…one of our Historic
Host lodgings. This is a self-catering Vacation
Rental where you can relax with your own family or
friends. By renting a Historic Host for your
vacation, you are helping preserve a part of the
history and culture of our scenic Appalachian
area.
This cabin dates from
the 1920s, and old-timers in the area tell us that
the family who lived here then also operated a gas
pump out front and sold sundries and basic goods
from what is now the living room! Old
advertising signs from long-ago products are now
part of the living room’s décor to highlight this
history. The house was
once the hub of a 160-acres farm. owned by an early
Vinton County family since the
late 1800s. Later, another industrious family
raised nine children on the farm, and operated a
successful truck garden for many years. (In fact the
soil in the lawns is still some of the best you’ll
ever see!)
Now the
little red house is on 5 acres split off about 1970,
the hub of Fiddlestix, a complex of gift shops
featuring Appalachian arts and traditions. In fact,
if you like some of the accessories, they just might
be for sale! For several years, there was even a
small café here, called “The Red Cottage.”
You’ll find a
notebook with plenty of information when you arrive.
You’ll be very near all of the Hocking Hills State
Parks, Lake Hope State Park, and the Zaleski State
Forest. Besides outdoor pursuits at the parks,
there are plenty of antique and craft malls and
shops, artist studios, covered bridges and ‘Quilt
Barns’ to explore. You’ll also be very near
Ravenwood Castle, a great place to reserve dinner,
or stroll about the grounds.
You are
renting the entire house consisting of a cozy living
room with an ‘old-fashioned-style” electric black
stove and a game table with ‘primitive’ board games
and puzzles, a large kitchen/family room, two
bedrooms ~ one with a queen bed and one with two
twins ~ and a bathroom with double shower big enough
for two! Bedding and towels are provided.
Your kitchen
is equipped with a range, refrigerator, sink,
microwave oven,, coffeemaker, plenty of dishes and
silverware and serving pieces. The dining area has
a handcrafted table and benches and a primitive
hutch with more games and puzzles. For more evening
entertainment, you might want to bring a laptop and
your favorite DVDs. You’ll
receive lots more information about “Staying at a
Historic Host” when you reserve a lodging. |
