Hocking Hills Links
Today, the Hocking
Hills region town of Zaleski is a hub of tourism as modern day people
enjoy hiking, biking, boating and much more in an area of
spectacular natural beauty. Within walking distance are
the Zaleski State Forest, three Native American burial
mounds, and one trailhead of the newly opened Moonville Rail
Trail. About
four miles away is Lake Hope with a well-known mountain bike
trail and a beautiful lake for fishing and boating (you can
rent boats.) In the summer the Lake Hope Nature Center
sponsors a nationally-known hummingbird program. Just a bit
farther are the supposedly haunted Moonville Tunnel (just
one of our ghost stories) and all of the Hocking Hills State
Parks.
And Vinton County has five covered bridges, including
one you can still drive across. One of the best
places to dine is the Great Hall at Ravenwood Castle (Vinton County’s
second castle) just seven miles through a scenic back road.
On the way you’ll also see one of Vinton County’s Quilt
Barns. See Vinton County travel information at the link
below. You’ll find maps and plenty of brochures and other
information in the house when you arrive. Depending on your
interests, you can easily fill a few days enjoying nature
and the history of a rural area where you can still see the
stars at night.
